Repair when the file says the machine is still the right one

A clear fault, a known part, and a history that is not already a list of the same failure: that is a repair.
Repair is the default when the machine does the job you bought it for, the part is known, and you are not on the third visit for the same symptom this season. Do the job, write the cost, and put it back.
The file should be read before the approval, not after. If you approve from the quote alone, you will repair a frame that has already had the same part twice.
Say yes in writing
“Approved” on the job, with the estimate you accepted, is enough. A verbal yes in the corridor becomes a dispute when the invoice is higher. If the technician finds more, they stop and you approve the change on the same job.
A repair you are unsure about can still be right if the alternative is a closed machine through a busy month and you have no replacement. Write that reason. Future you needs it.
Do not repair a safety problem with a temporary that has no end date. A temporary without a date is a permanent.

Repair or replace gym equipment
Replace when the part is gone, the same fault keeps returning, or the machine is unsafe while you wait. Use the spend you recorded. Do not invent a lifespan.
When a repair is really a replacement
Purchase date, warranty, and what you have already spent belong on the asset — before you approve the next expensive fix.
