# A dead console is not always a dead machine

Decide, per machine, whether the screen is the product or only a display. Write that limit on the status.

Some machines cannot be used without the console because resistance, incline, or safety stops live there. Others are mechanical and the screen is a scoreboard. The fault should say which.

If the machine is safe and usable without the display, you may leave it active and record the limit: “console dark, resistance manual”. If the stop or the resistance depends on the console, take it out of service. Do not make the member discover the difference.

## Error codes

Write the code down. A photo of the code is better than a paraphrase. “It said something about E3” cannot be looked up. Resetting without recording the code throws away the only clue.

Power supply faults often show up as a console fault. Note whether other machines on the same circuit blinked. That keeps you from replacing three consoles because a socket is loose.

A console that reboots only when the room is hot belongs in the zone note as well as on the asset.
