# Put the warranty on the asset before you need it

A claim starts with dates and a serial, not with a search through an inbox on the morning something fails.

Warranty is a set of dates and a set of papers. The start, the end, what is covered if you know it, and the invoice. They live on the asset. The person who opens on a Sunday does not have the founder’s email.

When a fault might be a claim, say so on the job before anyone fits a part you bought yourself. A well-meant repair can be the thing that ends the cover. If you are unsure, pause and ask. Write the pause as the status.

## What the claim needs later

The serial you actually have, the date the symptom was reported, and what was done. Photos from the fault are useful here. A story reconstructed a month later is weaker.

If the claim is refused, write the refusal on the asset. The next failure should not start from ignorance of the last answer.

A warranty end date in the past is not a failure of the file. It is the moment the repair cost becomes entirely yours, which is a lifecycle fact, not a surprise.
