Find the model and serial number on gym equipment

26. 1. 2026 · 3 min čtení

The model and serial are on a plate on the frame or inside the console bay. Photograph them. If the plate is gone, say so. Do not invent a number.

You find the model and serial number before you order a part and before you open a warranty claim. The brand on the shroud is not enough. Two machines from the same maker, bought years apart, do not share a belt, a cable, or a console board. The plate is the difference.

Where to look

Start on the frame, low, near a foot or under the shroud edge. Treadmills often carry the plate on the side rail or on the motor tray, visible only with the cover off. Bikes carry it on the chainstay area or under the flywheel cover. Strength machines carry it on the stack tower or the base, sometimes behind the shroud you need a tool to move.

The console can have a second sticker, and it can be a different number from the frame. Write both if both exist, and label them. A console serial will not order a running belt. A frame serial will not order the board.

Photograph the plate in place, with enough of the machine in the frame that you can see which asset it is. A close crop of a number with no machine is easy to file on the wrong asset when you are doing six treadmills in a row.

When the plate is gone

Say that the plate is missing. Give the machine your own code and write “serial not on the frame” on the asset. Do not copy the serial from the machine next to it. Do not type a number from an old invoice unless you can match the invoice to this frame by something else you can see: a delivery mark, a unique option, a photo from the install.

An invoice is useful next to the asset. It is not a substitute for looking, because clubs move machines and the paperwork follows the purchase, not the corner.

Why it changes the job

A belt order without the model is how the wrong belt arrives and the treadmill stays closed for another week. A warranty claim without the serial is a conversation. The dates and the job still have to be on the file. See repair or replace for how that file gets used, and the glossary notes on model and serial number.

Do this once, when the machine arrives or the first time you service it. Doing it in the middle of a breakdown, with members waiting, is how numbers get transposed. The opening of a new machine is the cheap moment. Write the brand, the model, the serial, and where the plate sits, so the next person does not have to kneel with a torch to find it again.
