Rowers fail at the chain, the rail, and the handle

A dusty rail and a dry chain are ordinary. A frayed connector where the handle meets the chain is not.
The daily kindness for a rower is a clean rail and a chain that is not grinding. That is housekeeping with a maintenance effect. The weekly look is the connector, the handle, the footrests, and whether the monitor lead is crushed under the rail.
A frayed link or a handle that is pulling out of its fitting is a reason to stop use. A monitor that shows nothing is a fault, and the rower may still be usable if the resistance is mechanical. Say which.
After a busy class
Check that the handle returned and did not whip into the frame housing. A cracked housing repeats. Note it the first time so the second crack is not a surprise.
Do not oil parts the maker says to leave alone. If you do not know, clean and record, and look up the manual before you lubricate a chain that wants a different treatment.
When you replace a chain, record the hours or the date, not because the number is magic, but because the next chain’s life is easier to see.
