Dumbbells and plates need a file too
4 Noll 2022 · 1 nóim léite
A cracked dumbbell is an asset, even if it never had a serial number. The set is not one vague pile.
Free weights are easy to leave out of the register because there are many of them and they look alike. A cracked dumbbell or a plate with a broken hub is still a thing you must remove and replace.
You do not need a file per plate if that buries you. You do need a file for the rack or the set, and a way to record “pair of 24s removed, cracked handle” as a job. Otherwise the hole in the rack is a mystery and the cracked piece returns from the back room.
What to check
Heads that spin on the handle, welds at the join, rubber that has split to a sharp edge, and plates that no longer sit on the bar. A spinning head can be a fault. A sharp split is a reason to take that piece out.
Keep retired iron marked so it is not put back by a helpful closer. “Out” means out of the room, not under a bench.

Rain and mud arrive on the first machines
The bikes and treadmills nearest the door take the water. Their faults are often the entrance, not the brand.
After a move, assume something loosened
Feet, shrouds, console leads, and anchors shift in a move. Check them the same day, on the same asset.
Belt dust is a maintenance clue
Black dust under a treadmill is not only dirt. It is the belt or the deck telling you they are wearing.
