A recurring plan is a job that already knows when it is next

Recurring work is the opposite of heroics. The belt check, the cable look, the anchor pass, the console error review: each has a rhythm. The plan creates the job when it is due. A person does not have to invent it.

Write the rhythm from the failures you have, not from a generic poster. A monthly cable inspection on a brand-new selectorized line may be right. The same line on a six-year-old machine that frays may need to be shorter. Change the plan when the history says so.

Overdue is the point

A plan you cannot see as overdue is a reminder in someone’s head. Overdue should be visible without opening each asset. Then you choose what to slip, instead of discovering the slip when a cable goes.

Do not stack five plans on a Monday and call it a system. The floor still has classes. A plan that is always overdue teaches people to ignore the list.

When the work is done, the next date moves because the job was finished, not because the calendar page turned.
