Repair or replace gym equipment

Repair or replace is a decision you make from the file, not from a rule that every treadmill lasts a fixed number of years. Clubs wear machines at different hours. A hotel treadmill and a 24-hour club treadmill are not the same life. What you can know is what this machine has already cost, how often it has been down during opening, and whether the part still exists.

Read the history before the next quote

Open the asset. Count the jobs, not the anecdotes. Three visits for the same belt path, a cable replaced twice because a pulley was left, or a console board that failed after the previous board, are patterns. One expensive visit after years of quiet is not the same pattern.

The numbers that matter are the ones you wrote down: parts, labour, and days out of service in opening hours. If those numbers are missing, you cannot make a clever comparison. Write them on this job anyway, so the next decision is possible. There is no honest percentage that fits every floor. Anyone who gives you one without your file is guessing.

When repair is the wrong spend

Replace, or retire, when one of these is true.

The part is no longer sold for this model, and a substitute would change how the machine stops or how the stack is held. Safety is not a place for a near fit.

The same safety fault has returned after a proper repair. Another clean of a scored guide rod is not a plan.

The machine will sit out of service through the lead time, and you have no safe way to keep the station closed and still run the floor. Waiting is allowed. Waiting with the machine left in use is not.

The quote for the repair is close to a replacement you would actually buy, and the frame or the deck is already at the end of what the manual allows. A cheap repair that buys a month can be right. Call it a month on the job, so nobody treats it as a new machine.

Do not delete the old one

When you replace, link the new asset to the old file. The old serial, the spend, and the faults are how you choose the next model. Deleting the rower because it left the building erases the only reason you knew which fault kept coming back.

Warranty still applies if the dates say so. A belt that fails inside the window is a claim with the serial and the job attached, not a story in an inbox. The model and serial have to be on the asset before the failure, or the claim starts with a search.

This choice sits on top of the ordinary work: the belt, the cable, the stack. Those jobs are how the history gets thick enough to decide.
