Lubricate only what you mean to lubricate

Lubrication is where helpful people cause the next job. A belt that needs a specific dressing is not a hinge. A guide rod is not a chain. A seat post may want a different product from a pivot that wants almost nothing.

If the manual is on the asset, follow it. If it is not, do not invent a ritual from another brand. Clean the visible dirt, write “not lubricated, manual not on file”, and get the instruction before you spray.

Record the product

Write what you used and where. “Oiled it” cannot be reversed with confidence. A named product on a named point can.

Over-lubrication collects dust and then looks like a different fault. If a pivot is suddenly black and gritty, ask whether someone was kind to it last month.

Never lubricate a friction surface that is supposed to brake, grip, or stay dry for safety. If you do not know whether it is that surface, leave it.
