A hot smell is a stop, not a note for later

Hot insulation, a warm plug, or a console that smells sweet and sharp: take the machine off and do not switch it back on to ‘see’.
If you can smell hot electrics, or a plug is too warm to be normal, that machine is out of service. Unplug it if you can do so without risk. Do not run it again to confirm the smell for a second person. The confirmation is the reason it is closed.
Write what you smelled, where, and whether anything else on the same socket was affected. That sentence is the whole fault. A technician can use it. “It was being weird” is not enough.
What not to do
Do not spray, do not open a live console, do not replace a fuse repeatedly so the class can continue. A fuse that blows again is the fault. The machine stays off.
If the smell is the room rather than one machine, close the ones you cannot separate and get the supply looked at. Record that as a zone fault so you do not buy three motors.
Return to service only after someone competent has said why it is safe. Their words go on the job. “Seems fine now” from the person who wants the treadmill back is not that someone.

Kit in a children’s area is still equipment
Smaller does not mean informal. A broken hold, a loose bolt, or a torn mat is a fault with a status.
Clearance is a condition of the machine
A treadmill too close to a mirror, or a rack too close to a walkway, will be reported as the machine’s fault. Measure it once.
Accessibility equipment is not a side cupboard
A lift, a ramp, or an adaptive machine that is out of service is a closed door, not a spare.
