Close the floor with the jobs, not with a feeling
28 ta’ Lul, 2021 · 1 min qari
The last walk should leave a clear list: still out of service, waiting on a part, or safe to open in the morning.
Closing time is when notes get vague. “Looked okay” is not a handover. The next person needs to know which machines are closed and which jobs are unfinished.
Walk the same route as the morning, in reverse if that is how you leave the building. Check that out-of-service signs match the register. A machine you fixed should not still wear yesterday’s tape.
Leave three kinds of notes
- Still out of service, and why.
- Waiting on a part or a person, with the name of the job.
- Something you saw and did not have time to open properly. Open the fault anyway, even if the description is short.
Do not rely on a verbal “tell Alex in the morning”. Alex may not be the one who opens. The register is the person who is always on the next shift.
If members are still training, do not skip the machines they are on. Note them for the first quiet moment, and do not mark a fault resolved because the member said it felt better.

Tell a member the status, not the internal argument
The useful sentence is whether they can use it, and whether you already know. The part number is not for the floor.
Reset the rig to a known plan after class
A rig left as the last workout set it is a different machine. The closer puts it back and notes what broke.
Find the model and serial number on gym equipment
The model and serial are on a plate on the frame or inside the console bay. Photograph them. If the plate is gone, say so. Do not invent a number.
