Members do not repair the equipment

A helpful member with a multitool is not a work order. The machine comes out of service, and the repair is yours.
People will tighten, tape, and “just fix” a pin because they want to finish a set. That kindness removes the fault from view and sometimes makes it worse.
The rule is simple enough to say out loud: report it, do not repair it. Staff can take a machine out of service. A member’s repair is not a resolution.
If you find a homemade fix
Remove it if it is unsafe, or leave it only long enough to understand it, and then replace it with a real status. Write what you found: tape on a cable, a coin in a console, a pin from another bench. Those details explain the next failure.
Thank the person if they reported it. Do not thank a silent modification. The history should show the machine was altered by someone who does not work for you, because that changes what you trust.
A public page that asks for a report, not for advice on how to open the shroud, supports the same rule.

Kit in a children’s area is still equipment
Smaller does not mean informal. A broken hold, a loose bolt, or a torn mat is a fault with a status.
Clearance is a condition of the machine
A treadmill too close to a mirror, or a rack too close to a walkway, will be reported as the machine’s fault. Measure it once.
A hot smell is a stop, not a note for later
Hot insulation, a warm plug, or a console that smells sweet and sharp: take the machine off and do not switch it back on to ‘see’.
