Walk the floor before the first members arrive

The opening walk is a short list: what is out of service, what was left unfinished, and what looks newly wrong.
A long checklist that nobody finishes is not an opening routine. The useful walk is the one a person can do with the doors still locked.
Start with anything already marked out of service. Is the sign still there? Is the machine still the one you think it is? Then look for what the night changed: a belt walked sideways, a bench left with a pin missing, a cable stacked on the floor, water near a console.
Write only what changed
If the rower is as it was yesterday, you do not need a new note. If a pin is missing, open a fault or add it to the open job. The walk is not a diary. It is a way to catch what the register does not know yet.
Keep the route stable. Same door, same direction, same end point. A different route every morning is how the same corner gets skipped.
If you are the only person on site, the walk still matters. You are the handover from the empty building.

Tell a member the status, not the internal argument
The useful sentence is whether they can use it, and whether you already know. The part number is not for the floor.
Reset the rig to a known plan after class
A rig left as the last workout set it is a different machine. The closer puts it back and notes what broke.
Find the model and serial number on gym equipment
The model and serial are on a plate on the frame or inside the console bay. Photograph them. If the plate is gone, say so. Do not invent a number.
