Torn upholstery is comfort until it is not

A split cover is ugly. An exposed edge, a sliding user, or soaked foam is a reason to take it out.
Most torn pads can wait for a planned recover. They still get a fault so they are not invisible. The ones that should not wait are the ones with a sharp edge, foam that lets the user slip off the support, or a cover that is wet through and will not dry clean.
Take a photo. Recovering the wrong bench is a common waste because “the blue one” was not the torn one.
Do not tape as a permanent status
Tape is a short bridge, and it should be on the job as temporary. Tape that has been on a pad for a season is a failed plan. Either recover it or retire the pad.
If you send covers out, record which asset they left and the date you expect them. A bench without a top may need to be out of service. Do not leave it active because someone might only use it for a light set.
Match the replacement cover to the asset when it returns. A cover is not interchangeable just because it looks close.

Feet, shrouds, console leads, and anchors shift in a move. Check them the same day, on the same asset.

Black dust under a treadmill is not only dirt. It is the belt or the deck telling you they are wearing.
