Service bikes for play, belts, and the thing members hit

Cranks, pedals, seats, and fans take the abuse. The console is what people complain about first.
On upright and spin bikes, check play in the cranks and pedals, the seat post clamp, and the belts or chain if you can see them. On air bikes, the fan cage and the handles take impacts. A bent cage is a safety fault. A noisy fan with an intact cage may be wear.
Members report “no resistance” more often than “the pedal is loose”. Both belong on the fault. The loose pedal is the one that injures.
Consoles
A dead console on a bike that otherwise rides can sometimes stay in limited use if the resistance is mechanical and obvious. Write that limit on the status. If resistance is electronic and the console is dead, the bike is unusable. Do not leave it as active because the pedals go around.
Wipe sweat as cleaning. It is also maintenance. Salt eats posts and bolts. A rusted clamp that will not hold a seat height is a fault, not a housekeeping note.

Black dust under a treadmill is not only dirt. It is the belt or the deck telling you they are wearing.
